I Can’t Look Back…

I purchased my PerioLase MVP-7 in late February 2020 and attended Bootcamp from March 13-15, just before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down dentistry. I must say, I was worried!  

When the laser arrived at my office in early April, I brought it home, assembled it, and immersed myself in the written material. I watched YouTube videos and prepared my marketing materials for patient education. So by the time we could open up again, I was ready to treat patients.

My first case was a patient who was an uncontrolled diabetic with generalized type 4 periodontitis. She also had an abscess tooth. She had previously been treated with traditional periodontal therapy years ago, but now had relapsed and her blood sugars were over 300 mg/dl. I treated her with the LANAP protocol, extracted tooth #12, and performed her occlusal equilibration in one appointment. At her 48 hour post-op, she was amazed that she had ‘absolutely no pain or bleeding.’ Within 10 days, her blood sugar levels were 100 mg/dl. She told me, ‘my bite feels amazing, what did you do?’ So this began my journey into LANAP and recognizing that I was truly healing my patients by using the PerioLase, at its own precise wavelength. It not only treats disease, but promotes healing in a way I have never seen before – and in such a short amount of time.

Patients continue to say, ‘my mouth feels amazing,’ ‘my gums feel great!! Why am I saying that?!’, ‘I had no pain whatsoever,’ ‘my teeth no longer hurt or move,’ ‘my bite feels solid,’ ‘for the first time, my teeth actually feel like they match up,’ ‘my gums don’t bleed like they used to,’ ‘my jaw doesn’t hurt anymore,’ ‘my salivary glands started to work again!’

I have done over 128 quadrants of surgery in four months… It’s like a door has opened for me and I passed through it. Now that I see the way periodontal treatment is supposed to be, I can’t look back. I have been in practice for more than 25 years, and I never thought there would be a procedure or technique that would radically change my practice philosophy as much as the PerioLase MVP-7 has and for that I am truly grateful.

The Patient Comes First… even during pandemics

Around 1998 I first began teaching a dedicated laser periodontitis treatment protocol (i.e. LANAP) and the fundamentals of clinically applied laser physics. Over those two plus decades, the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD) has of this date trained over 2,500 dentists, with the bulk being general dentists, periodontists and oral surgeons. 

The IALD’s rigorous training [and comprehensive adult learning style] is regularly reviewed by the ADA’s Continuing Education Recognized Provider (CERP) program. As part of the ADA CERP requirements, we collect course evaluations. We have also collected surveys, interviews and testimonials over the years. Over 95% of the responses from our trained doctors are overwhelmingly positive, including responses from highly regarded key opinion leaders (KOL’s). 

As gratifying as all the testimonials and responses have been, a testimonial that resonates especially powerfully is one that speaks to the treatment of patients’ needs, and outstanding results, in difficult and challenging times. Dr. Wagner’s experience is one bright and shining example of many testimonials over the decades, but more so in these challenging COVID-19 times.
