Headquartered in Cerritos, California, Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc. (MDT) was founded by Robert H. Gregg II, DDS in 1994. Dr. Gregg was fascinated by the possibilities of lasers in dentistry to provide a better experience for their patients; the possibility of a minimally-invasive perio treatment patients would accept.
THE HISTORY OF MILLENNIUM DENTAL TECHNOLOGIES, INC.

Throughout many years and the performance of thousands of procedures, these pioneering laser clinicians gained an extraordinary understanding of laser-tissue interaction. Dr. Gregg visualized the potential of the Free-Running Pulsed Nd:YAG laser for use in periodontal therapy and developed a minimally-invasive “recipe” that would replace the conventional scalpel and suture flap surgery that they knew patients dreaded.

Their vision, along with years of clinical use and copious research studies, resulted in the development of the PerioLase® MVP-7™ and the LANAP® protocol for the treatment of periodontal disease and promoting new periodontal connective tissue attachment.

The PerioLase® MVP-7™ also enables the treatment of peri-implantitis and peri-implant mucositis with the LAPIP™ protocol. The PerioLase® MVP-7™ for the LANAP® and LAPIP™ protocols is the most significant achievement in soft-tissue dental lasers since the inception of lasers. The FDA-cleared LANAP® protocol is the first patented periodontal protocol. Millennium Dental Technologies, still going strong with Dr. Gregg at the helm, continues to operate with the mission to create better clinical outcomes in patients with periodontal disease – and to remain true to the guiding principle:

“It’s all about the patient.”

IMPORTANT MILESTONES

1989
Dr. Robert Gregg and former associate Dr. Delwin McCarthy begin their research into dental lasers and in four years had a prototype for what would eventually become the PerioLase® MVP-7™.
1994
Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc. is formed to market the PerioLase® MVP-7™.
1998
LANAP® Protocol becomes the first periodontal and laser periodontics treatment ever to be granted a U.S. patent.
1999
The PerioLase is cleared by the U.S. FDA and introduced to the dental industry.
2001
Millennium Dental Technologies receives the first clearance from the Food and Drug Administration to market the PerioLase® MVP-7 as a device for laser curettage (removal of diseased or inflamed soft tissue in the periodontal pocket) and enamel caries removal. The PerioLase MVP-7 is introduced into the market.
2004
Millennium Dental Technologies receives U.S. FDA clearance for the LANAP protocol, Laser assisted new attachment procedure (cementum-mediated periodontal ligament new-attachment to the root surface in the absence of long junctional epithelium.) and a second abstract is published in the IADR.
2007
Histological evaluation of the LANAP protocol on humans by Raymond Yukna, DMD, MS passes peer-review and is published by the IJPRD.
2010
LANAP® Multi-Centered Clinical Study begins with study design and review. University of Colorado dental school begins collecting data from patients treated during training.
2012
Android™ PerioLase MVP-7 debuts at the Chicago Midwinter Dental Meeting. This is the first integration of an Android tablet into a medical device.
2012
Second Human Histological study supporting the efficacy of the LANAP protocol is published by the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry (IJPRD). There are now two published histology studies supporting the LANAP protocol; one by Raymond Yukna, DMD, MS and one by Marc Nevins, DMD, MMSc.
2013
LAPIP protocol for ailing and failing implants introduced at the American Academy of Periodontology Annual Meeting.
